Horizontal ribbing runs the length of the body. It is there for grip — a plain steel cylinder is slippery with wet hands, and the usual fix is a silicone sleeve that traps water and smells within a month. Ribbing solves the same problem with no added parts. It also breaks up reflections, so the bottle photographs with some form instead of as a mirror, which is a real consideration for catalogue and social use.
