Gilt page edges. It is a detail borrowed from bound diaries and almost never seen at this price, and it is the first thing anyone notices when they pick the notebook up — the gold shows on the closed block before the cover is even opened. Gold trim carries onto the cover corners and the elastic. The bottle alongside is plain black, deliberately, because gold on both pieces would tip the set into ornamental.
