The bamboo sleeve wraps a steel liner, so it holds heat properly while the outside stays comfortable to hold. The handle is the part that makes it a mug in use rather than a tumbler with a grip. Wide mouth means it can actually be cleaned, which narrow-neck bottles cannot. Hand wash only because of the bamboo.
